The Brahma Kamal (Epiphyllum Orange) is a stunning, exotic flowering plant cherished for its rare and vibrant orange blooms. Known for its unique appearance and ease of care, this plant is perfect for both indoor and outdoor spaces. With its large, bright flowers and striking foliage, it’s an excellent choice for enhancing home gardens, patios, or balconies.
Planting Season:
Best planted during spring or early summer to ensure the plant establishes itself before colder months.
Sunlight Requirements:
Prefers bright, indirect sunlight. Too much direct sunlight can scorch the leaves, while too little light may reduce blooming.
Temperature Tolerance:
Ideal growing temperature ranges from 15-30°C. This plant is sensitive to frost, so ensure protection from cold temperatures.
Soil Type:
Thrives in well-draining, slightly acidic soil. A mix of garden soil, sand, and organic compost works well for this plant’s root system.
Watering Needs:
Water moderately, ensuring the soil remains slightly moist but not waterlogged. Reduce watering during winter when the plant enters dormancy.
Fertilization:
Feed the plant with a balanced liquid fertilizer every 2-3 weeks during the growing season (spring to early autumn). Avoid over-fertilizing to prevent root burn.
Pruning & Maintenance:
Prune after flowering to remove dead or weak stems, encouraging new growth and better flowering in the next season.
Propagation:
Easily propagated through stem cuttings. Cut a healthy segment, let it dry for a few days, and plant it in well-draining soil.
Pests and Problems:
The most common problems include aphids, slugs, and fungal issues due to overwatering. Treat fungal issues with a fungicide, and use slug pellets or natural remedies like crushed eggshells to deter slugs. Aphids can be treated with insecticidal soap or a mild pesticide spray.
To encourage blooming, place the plant in a location where it receives plenty of indirect sunlight, and avoid overwatering. Adding a layer of gravel or pebbles to the top of the soil can help with water retention while preventing root rot.
